EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment method applicable to a wide variety of emotional and behavioral difficulties. As a treatment approach, it seems to sort of "jump start" the human brain so that it will process troubling memories to a healthy resolution.
Originally utilized for treating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR is now used effectively for many other presenting concerns. These include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, paniuc, phobias, long-standing grief, stress, and behavioral problems which may be caused by an old but often forgotten memory. People who find they are easily "triggered" into excessive reactions by seemingly minor incidents may be effectively assisted with EMDR.
First developed in the late 1980's, EMDR is now utilized by over 20,000 trained clinicians worldwide. Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., has described EMDR as "the treatment of choice" for single incident trauma.
